I took this shot of an oriole in Tucson, AZ, purposely bracketing so that I could have some flexibility with working with the background exposure relative to the subject. In this shot, the bird was originally a bit underexposed with the background right on. This allowed me in post production to bring the overall brightness and fill light up, pump up the saturation a bit, vignetting the edges. This resulted in a bird which looked sharp and realistic, with the background flaring up and washing out to pastel, causing a "watercolor and ink" effect to dominate the photo, making it look less like a nature shot and more like an art print.
