The people who left Cape Verde may have to come back to save it because all that is happening now is that more women are having babies but staying home instead of getting a good education. I heard that from many older people who feel that the young are their own worst enemy.
Economic development begins and ends with fishing and tourism. But if the government allows other countries to over-fish and control the hotel and resorts than they will surely lose the islands.

- I see the foreigners slowly build up their hotels, resorts and businesses. They hire their own kind to run them and then charge Cape Verdeans high prices for cheap stuff. If the government does not help improve the condition of the people then they will sell out the island with all its natural beauty to the rich and powerful europeans. They will build more businesses and fancy house until they have control of the cities and towns. Then they will take over the country just like they have taken so many fish off the Cape Verdean islands without asking. It is going to get tougher if they continue to overfish. What will the people eat then? Their goats?

- This is a sad situation but I think it is also becasue many Africans come to Praia and get involved in illegal activity because of no education and lack of jobs. The government does not invest or care about young people except those they draft into the Army. And many of the hotels and new malls will be hiring heavy security because of the crime problems.
I have not gone to Boa Vista but I hear it is beautiful.

- I have many pictures from Carneval and will post them on this site. I am so glad I met you two on LaGine Beach. I intend to go back next year and do more photos for a book. I love St. Vicente and San Antanoa. They are the most peaceful of all the islands. Praia is having problems with drugs and violence thanks to the Italian Mafia which gives youths drugs and guns.

- I have so many beautiful pictures from my ttrip that I intend on doing a cultural exhibit to help me return to St. Vicent for Carneval. That fish is called a flying fish and the boat was taken aboard the Aramis ferry that departs from St. Antone every day. How are you and your man getting along?
